The P-40 was one of my favorite warbirds when I was in junior high. Tough, versatile, ease of maintenance coupled with decent firepower offset its rather lack-luster performance. Even its detractors had to admit that the Warhawk was an effective air-superiority fighter as well as excelling in ground attack.
