The brits sold of all their Harriers.....Boooo Hissssss...but the US bought them all for spares to make sure the marine Harriers stay in the air...

I guess being able to do your job, do it well, and spank more "sophisticated" fighters like the Mirage( okay they were flown by Argentina but those guys weren't exactly slouches) wasn't enough for the Brits.....They had to have sexy, they had to have advanced...so they buy an overpriced untried substitute .....

I'll take butt ugly, capable, rugged and reliable any day...and evidently so will the Marines :D

That's a Russian mantra if I ever heard one.
And yes, selling off all their Harriers was a dumbass move on the part of the Royal Navy.

I have to agree, when bean counters, politicians, and generals, get involved they muck things up... the harrier is a damn useful piece of kit.
